BOISE, Idaho - The third day of the pre-game activities concluded with the Humanitarian Awards Banquet Saturday as senior placekicker Clint Stitser was honored as Fresno State's Humanitarian Award winner.
Both Fresno State and Georgia Tech were asked to vote for a player for his efforts in and "beyond football." Profile video highlighted the accomplishments and efforts of Stitser and Yellow Jacket Tashard Choice before the two were presented with trophies. After receiving his award, Stitser praised Fresno State athletics for providing its athletes with the opportunities to give back.
"I am honored to win this award, but I think it's actually a reflection on Fresno State," he said. "You don't do community service for recognition; you do it to give back."
In introducing Stitser, Head Coach Pat Hill said the video took the words right out of his mouth.
"Everything I was going to say, the video just said," explained Hill. "But everything Clint does, he does at full speed."
Quarterback Tom Brandstater agreed with Hill.
"Clint is an inspiration to all of us in what he does both on and off the field," he said.
Thomas Boeh said that Stitser embodies the best of collegiate athletics.
"Clint Stitser is a marvelous representative of Fresno State and we are fortunate to have him provide an example for us all," said Boeh.
Former Heisman Trophy winner, Charlie Ward, followed the players' speeches with the keynote speech. Ward, who was drafted by the NFL, MLB and NBA after graduating from Florida State spoke about giving back through community service.
"I've never heard of someone getting drafted in all three sports," said Brandstater. "And to hear he's a quality guy is really great."
Earlier in the day, Fresno State took to the field for its second practice on the blue turf. The weather hit the mid-40s and Hill declared the weather to be "wonderful."
"If it's like this on game day, it'll be perfect," he said.
