Bulldogs Bring Offense But Fall 6-4 To Stanford

Palo Alto, Calif. - On a bright Sunday afternoon, contrast to the past two days Fresno State played its second game against Stanford losing by a score of 6-4.
Starting Fresno State pitcher Brandon Burke (0-1, 2.45) threw five innings and allowed seven hits and four runs. Justin Wilson came in at the sixth inning and 1.1 innings allowing two hits and two runs.
Left handed pitcher Jeremy Bleich (0-1, 6.00) earned the start for Stanford throwing 4.1 innings and allowed eight hits and four runs.
Stanford carried its offensive momentum in the second game scoring four runs in the bottom of the first inning. Toby Gerhart singled up the middle to start things off for the Cardinals. Michael Taylor singled to left field advancing Gerhart to second base. With two outs and runners in scoring position Joey August singled to first base knocking in an RBI and eventually scoring Gerhart on the throw home. The next two batters singled and scored Brian Juhl from third base. The final run of the inning was scored when Adam Gaylord singled through the left side tallying brining in Brendan Domaracki.
Fresno State jumped on the board in the fifth inning tallying four runs. Steve Detwiler hit a deep fly ball to center field and Todd Sandell tagged on the play from third base scoring the first run. With two players on second and third Brian Lapin hit a single up the middle scoring both the runs. After a pitching change for Stanford Steve Susdorf singled through the right side and Lapin reached third. In the next at bat Ozzie Lewis singled to left field knocking in the game tying run at 4 a piece.
In the bottom of the sixth Stanford recorded two singles and two scored runs on two errors making the score 6-4.
Brandon Burke earned his second loss of the year moving to 0-2. While Stanford pitcher Jeremy Bleich added his first win of the season moving to 1-1.
The Bulldogs (1-5) will continue play at home when they face Cal State Northridge on Tuesday and Wednesday in a two game stand with game times at 6:05 p.m.
