Bulldogs Split Series Against Matadors

Fresno, Calif. - The Fresno State baseball team (2-6) lost to Cal State Northridge (7-4) in the second game of the match-up at Beiden Field by a score of 10-3 Wednesday night.
Tanner Scheppers (0-1, 4.50) earned the start on the mound for the Bulldogs throwing one inning and allowing two runs on one hit. Scheppers left the game with an injury after a lined shot was fired right back at him. Brandon Miller relieved Scheppers and threw
In his first start for the Matadors Davin Tate (0-0, 9.00) threw five innings allowing two runs on two hits. Billy Ott threw the rest of game totaling four innings allowing one run on four hits.
Cal State Northridge looked for a little revenge from last night gathering four runs in the first inning. In the first at bat Todd Shelton tripled to left center and scored on the next play when Jonathan Sakuri singled. The next run was scored on an error from the Bulldogs making the score 2-0. Another run scored when Cates grounded out to second base and the last run of the inning scored when Jorge Andrade singled bringing in John Parham from third.
The Bulldogs gained some momentum in the bottom of the second inning when Tom Mendonca hit his third home run of the season and Jason Hershfield hit his first making the score 4-2.
The Matadors didn't let up in the top of the third scoring five more runs. With the bases loaded Cal State Northridge scored two runs when Daniel Limbrick singled to left center. Two more runs were scored on Bulldog throwing errors and the last run of the inning scored on a single from C.J. Belanger.
Fresno State scored its third and final run of the game when Mendonca scored from third on a single from Ozzie Lewis at 9-3.
Cal State Nothridge scored its final run in the seventh inning 10-3.
In the designated hitter position for Fresno State Jason Hershfield went 2-for-4 with one home run and one single.
The Bulldogs will play in a three game series against Loyola Marymount starting Friday at 6:05. The next two games will be on Saturday and Sunday at 1:05 p.m.
