FRESNO, Calif. - Sophomore right-hander Robin Mackin was named Western Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday. It was the first honor for Mackin this season. Last year as a freshman, Mackin earned either pitcher or player of the week honors five times.
Mackin threw three complete games last week, earning all three of Fresno State's wins. Mackin went the distance in Fresno State's 3-2 12-inning defeat of Santa Clara on Feb. 13, striking out 14. Overall, Mackin struck out 31 in 27 innings of work - good for an average of eight strikeouts per seven innings. In those 27 innings, Mackin only allowed two earned runs. Fresno State took two of three from Louisville in which Mackin shutout the Cardinals in both wins.
The 21st-ranked Bulldogs are back in action on Friday at the Palm Springs Classic when they play No. 1 Tennessee at 1 p.m. and Ohio State at 8 p.m.
