Bulldogs Head to Malibu to Take on No. 15 Pepperdine

Fresno State will be traveling south and close to the coast to Malibu, Calif. as it will take on the No. 15 Pepperdine Waves in a three-game series starting with the first pitch on Friday at 2 p.m. The follwing two games will take place on Saturday and Sunday at 1 p.m. The Bulldogs lead the all time series with 33-19. All games will be broadcast on KMJ 580, with Paul Loeffler calling the action. The games can also be followed live on the web with Gametracker, provided through Fresno State's official website, www.gobulldogs.com.
In The Hole
Next week the Fresno State baseball team will tavel to Santa Clara, Calif. and San Diego. The Bulldogs will face the Santa Clara Broncos and San Diego Torreros. Fresno State faced the Broncos back in 2002 and won two out of the three games played. The `Dogs have faired well against the Broncos and lead the all-time series 69-38. Fresno State faced San Diego last year in the regional game last year winning both games 9-8. In the regular season the Bulldogs haven't played San Diego since 1991. Fresno State leads the all-time series against the Torreros 12-3.
Scouting No. 15 Pepperdine
The Waves finished with a 42-21 overall record and a first place 15-6 mark in the West Coast tying as Co-Champions. After the regular season Pepperdine finished in second place at the Malibu Regional. The Waves were ranked No. 21 by Baseball American; No. 24 NCBWA, No. 25 USA Today/ESPN and No. 30 by Collegiate Baseball after the 2006 season.
Waves - Top Returning Hitters
The Pepperdine Waves have three key offensive hitters returning to the lineup. One of those three returners include junior second team All-WCC center fielder Adrian Ortiz who hit with a .340 batting average combining 28 RBI's, one home run and 10 stolen bases. Another key hitter includes Freshman All-American and First Team All-WCC sophomore third baseman Chase d'Arnaud who batted with a .282 average knocking in 22 RBI's and stealing two bases. Lastly, junior shortstop Danny Worth who was Honorable Mention All-WCC hit with a .309 batting average knocking out three home runs and knocking in 37 RBI's.
Waves - Returning Pitchers
Pepperdine has two key returning pitchers on the roster. One player includes junior WCC Co-Pitcher of the Year Barry Enright who threw in 124.1 innings combining 68 strikeouts and 22 walks with a 13-2 win, loss record. The second top returning pitcher includes first team All-WCC sophomore Brett Hunter who threw 60.1 innings combining 53 strikeouts, 16 walks with a 5-3 record.
Two-For-Tuesdays
Starting Tuesday March 6, if you buy an $8 dollar reserved ticket you will receive one free. There will be a limit of four free tickets per customer. Also with your ticket purchase you will receive a voucher good for a buy one large hot dog and get a second large hot dog free.
Fresno State vs. Opponents
The Bulldogs are batting with an average of .282 compared to their oppenents who are hitting a .253 average. In 373 at bats Fresno State has connected on 105 hits compared to an oppenent who has 379 at bats connecting on 96 hits. Fresno State also has 16 doubles, five triples, seven home runs and 49 RBI's compared to the opponents who have tallied 10 doubles, five triples, four home runs and 49 RBI's. In all the Bulldogs are beating their opponents in hits, doubles and home runs.
Cal State Northridge vs. Fresno State - Recap
On a cold Tuesday night at Beiden field the Fresno State baseball team notched their second win of the season against Cal State Northridge by a score of 8-4. The Bulldogs connected on six hits on 33 at bats to the Matadors six hits in 22 at bats. Freshman pitcher Clayton Allison (0-0, 4.76) earned the start for the Bulldogs throwing five and two-thirds innings and allowing four runs on six hits.
Fresno State lost to Cal State Northridge in the second game of the match-up at Beiden Field by a score of 10-3 Wednesday night. Tanner Scheppers (0-1, 4.50) earned the start on the mound for the Bulldogs throwing one inning and allowing two runs on one hit. Scheppers left the game with an injury after a lined shot was fired right back at him. Brandon Miller relieved Scheppers and throwing one inning.
Loyola Marymount vs. Fresno State - Recap
The Fresno State Bulldogs not at (5-6) swept Loyola Marymount (3-7-1) in a three-game series playing Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Beiden Field. Brandon Burke (1-1, 4.38) earned the start and the win for the Bulldogs throwing five innings and allowing one run on four hits Friday night. The Bulldogs scored 15 runs in game one which is the most they have scored in 2007.
At the end of game two the Bulldogs recorded their first back-to-back wins of the season against Loyola Marymount at Beiden Field Saturday afternoon in front of 1,770 fans. Justin Wilson (2-1, 2.45) earned the start on the mound for the Bulldogs throwing five innings allowing two runs on seven hits.
Smooth Swinging
The Bulldogs have five players who hitting with a .300 batting average or better. Erik Wetzel leads the pack with a .375 batting average connecting on 15 hits in 40 at bats with one double. Dan Grubb who has started in nine games is second on the team with a .348 batting average connecting on eight hits in 23 at bats. Todd Sandell is hitting with a .316 batting average connecting on 12 hits in 38 at bats with four doubles and one home run. Loren Storey and Tom Mendonca are both hitting with a .300 batting average.
`Dogs on the Air
KMJ 580 AM will once again be the radio home of Fresno State baseball this season ... KGPE-47 sports anchor Paul Loeffler enters his sixth season handling the play-by-play duties while 1996 Bulldog Baseball Hall of Fame inductee Steve Hosey begins his fifth year providing analysis ... The duo will be broadcasting a record number of games this season.
