Softball Continues Road and Tournament Play

Up Next For Fresno State: Fresno State continues its road play and tournament schedule when it travels to Stockton on Wednesday, February 28 to face Pacific in a doubleheader, beginning at 1 p.m. Following its Wednesday doubleheader, the Bulldogs will travel to Las Vegas to participate in the UNLV Invitational, beginning Friday at 9 a.m. against California.
Who's Hot: Fresno State senior outfielder Shannon Garvin hit .300 in five games last week in the Palm Springs Classic. Garvin, an outfielder, went 3 for 10 with one double and one run scored. She also had a .364 on base percentage and had one walk. Against Ohio State, Garvin went 2 for 2, recording half of the Bulldogs' four hits.
Another Ranked Opponent: Fresno State faced its third ranked opponent on Friday at the Pam Springs Classic. The Bulldogs faced No. 1 Tennessee and lost 5-0. Fresno State hung tough for the first three innings, before the Volunteers got on the board with two runs in the fourth, two in the fifth and one in the seventh. Robin Mackin pitched all seven innings, striking out seven batters and only allowing three earned runs.
Facing the Tigers: Fresno State takes a short trip north to Stockton to face Pacific on Wednesday afternoon. The Tigers come into the doubleheader with an 8-2 overall record. Fresno State swept the series last season, beating Pacific 2-0 and 6-5. The all-time series record is in the Bulldogs favor at 72-20-1.
UNLV Invitational: Fresno State will face another tough schedule at this year's UNLV Invitational. The Bulldogs open the tournament with a game against No. 18 California. Fresno State will then face Big 12 opponent Nebraska that same Friday morning. Nebraska, like the Bulldogs, just dropped out of the Top 25 this week. Fresno State will face UNLV on Saturday, followed by Southern Utah. On Sunday, Fresno State faces DePaul in its lone game before heading home.
Last Week: Fresno State went 2-3 last week at the Palm Springs Classic hosted by Oregon State. The Bulldogs opened the tournament with a 5-0 loss to No. 1 Tennessee. Robin Mackin picked up the loss, but recorded seven strikeouts and only three earned runs in the defeat. Kristin Sylvester had the Bulldogs' lone hit of the game. Later Friday night, the Bulldogs lost a tough 2-1 game against Ohio State. Kristen Sylvester went 1 for 3 and scored the Bulldog's lone run of the game. Shannon Garvin went 2 for 2 and Ashley White added a hit. On Saturday, the Bulldogs dropped their opening game 10-9 in eight innings against Virginia. Fresno State was led offensively by Haley Perkins, who went 3 for 4 with one run scored. Merryann Barr went 1 for 4 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Sylvester added two more hits and Jenna Cervantez went 2 for 4. Fresno State got in the win column on Saturday night with a 4-1 victory over Lon Island. Merryann Barr picked up the win, going 4 2/3 innings, while Robin Mackin came in to pick up the save. Barr also drove in two runs for the Bulldogs and Lisamarie Coronado went 1 for 3 with two RBIs. Fresno State ended the tournament on Sunday with a 1-0 victory over Penn State. Robin Mackin pitched a complete game, only allowing three hits and striking out six. Mackin also went 1 for 2, driving in the only run of the game.

The first radio broadcast of the season will be Friday, February 16 at 6 p.m. against Louisville.
Bulldog Classic Next Week: Fresno State will host the Bulldog Classic presented by Bingham Toyota next week at Bulldog Diamond. The Tournament kicks off on Thursday, March 8 with Colorado State facing Toledo at 4:30 p.m. and Fresno State facing BYU at 7 p.m. On Friday, March 9 a full day of action will begin at 9 a.m. with Toledo versus Purdue and ends at 7 p.m. with Fresno State facing Colorado State.
What's Next for Fresno State: The Bulldogs return home for a doubleheader against Connecticut on Tuesday, March 6 at 6 p.m. at Bulldog Diamond. Following its doubleheader, Fresno State will host the Bulldog Classic presented by Bingham Toyota on March 8-11 at Bulldog Diamond. This year's tournament features BYU, Colorado State, Toledo, Purdue and Penn State.
