Bulldogs Drop Game Three to Louisiana Tech, 8-6

RUSTON, La. - The Fresno State (13-17) Bulldogs lost the final contest of the three-game series against the Louisiana Tech (19-12) Bulldogs by a score of 8-6 Sunday afternoon at J.C. Love Field. Fresno State took one game from Louisiana Tech this weekend.
With two outs in the top of the first inning Tom Mendonca knocked in the first run for Fresno State scoring Steve Susdorf from third after he walked in his first at bat. The last run came in on a balk by Louisiana Tech starting pitcher Dylan Moseley (3-3, 6.68).
Fresno State added another run in the top of the second inning 3-0 when Erik Wetzel hit a sacrifice fly to left field with Steve Detwiler tagging on the play. Previously, Detwiler moved to first base on a single to centerfield and stole two bases to advance to third.
Louisiana Tech did not get on the board until the bottom of the fourth inning when pinch hitter Courtney Jones singled to center field bringing in two runs. Fresno State retired the side on a fly out to center field.
Louisiana Tech added one run when Brandon Hudson hit a lead off home run to tie the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the fifth inning. Tech added a couple more when Brian Rike hit a two-run homer to centerfield to take the lead 5-3.
Hitting his fourth home run of the year and tying the game up at 5-5, Mendonca knocked out a sky high ball to right center also scoring Brian Lapin who singled earlier up the middle to start the top of the sixth inning.
Tanner Scheppers started the game for Fresno State and threw five innings allowing five runs on nine hits. Rashad Tucker relieved Scheppers and threw two-thirds of an inning. Louisiana Tech went up by three at 8-5 with a three run shot by Rike. Fresno State added one more run at 8-6 in the top of the ninth inning when Loren Storey hit a sacrifice fly to left field bringing in pinch runner Ozzie Lewis from third.
Brian Lapin went 3-for-4 with one double and two singles. Mendonca went 2-for-4 with one home run and one single.
The Bulldogs will continue play this upcoming Tuesday facing non-conference opponent UC Davis (8-13) in a one-game contest at Beiden Field at 6:05 p.m. UC Davis is coming off two wins in a three-game series against Loyola Marymount. Fresno State swept Loyola Marymount taking all three games earlier this year.
