FRESNO, Calif. - Third-ranked sophomore Melanie Gloria won her 22nd straight singles match on Thursday, defeating North Carolina's Katrina Tsang 6-2, 6-3 during the NCAA round of 32 in Athens, Ga. In doubles, however, Gloria and sophomore Tinesta Rowe fell 6-4, 6-3 to Tennessee's Caitlin Whoriskey and Zsofia Zubor.
"Melanie controlled most of the match, but she'll definitely need to step it up a notch for tomorrow," said head Simon Thibodeau said.
Gloria will face Zemenova, who is currently ranked No. 18 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. Gloria lost to Zemenova last season during a dual match at Baylor in the only meeting between the two standouts.
Gloria has not lost in over three months and of her 22 consecutive victories, 21 have been in straight sets. Gloria will enter Friday's match with a 38-4 overall record, while Zemenova owns a 24-7 mark.
The match will begin at approximately 10 a.m. ET.
