Three Dogs Sign MLB Contracts

FRESNO, Calif. - The Colorado Rockies inked junior center fielder Brian Lapin who was drafted in the 18th round and senior left handed pitcher Brandon Miller in the 24th round. Junior Ozzie Lewis, drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the 21st round also signed. Lapin and Miller left earlier this week to participate in their short season rookie camp in Pasco, Wash.
Lapin finished the season with a .328 batting average, including 10 home runs, 61 RBI and 17 doubles. His best performance of the season came in the WAC tournament where he went 3-for-4 with three home runs, one walk and tallying seven RBI in a game the Bulldogs defeated Nevada 17-4. He was also named WAC Tournament MVP. Last year Lapin batted with a .349 average marking three home runs and 42 RBI.
Miller was the only pitcher selected for the Bulldogs. The senior tallied a 2-3 record grabbing three starts on the year. Miller had a 5.50 earned run average with 22 strikeouts in 36 innings pitched. As a freshman in 2004 Miller went 5-3 with a 5.91 ERA.
Lewis hit .293 with seven home runs, 16 doubles, and 40 RBI in 2007. In 2006 the Sylmar native appeared in 49 games starting 31 earning WAC Tournament MVP after hitting .588 with two home runs and two doubles in four games. He also earned All-WAC Tournament Team as an outfielder in that year.
Lapin, a Madera native, hit .320 over his three-year career as a Bullodog with 14 homers, 35 doubles, five triples, and 114 RBI.
Miller, a Clovis native, went 9-11 with a 5.19 ERA appearing in 79 games starting 23 striking out 98 batters.
