Fresno State vs. Texas A&M Postgame Notes September 8, 2007
On the Road Again
The Bulldogs return to the west coast next Saturday to play at Oregon. Oregon beat Michigan 39-7 today... After today's win, the Ducks are projected to enter the national polls when released Sunday. Fresno State doesn't have another home game until Sept. 29 when it opens WAC play against Louisiana Tech.
Young Pups
Fresno State head coach Pat Hill has his youngest team, and with only fives senior starters, the Dogs are one of the least experienced teams in the nation. Of the 64 Bulldogs who traveled to College Station, 22 had never been on a road trip before.
Second Half Surge
After getting shutout in the first half and racking up just 78 total yards against No. 23 Texas A&M, the Dogs exploded for 321 second half and overtime yards and 45 points against the Aggies in the 47-45 triple overtime loss at Kyle Field.
Brandstater Goes Big
In the second half against the No. 23 Aggies, junior quarterback Tom Brandstater was fantastic. He completed 16-of-21 passes for 198 yards and three touchdowns. One of the touchdowns tied the game for the Dogs with 5 seconds remaining in regulation to force overtime. His third touchdown came in the third overtime, which brought the Dogs within a two-point conversion of forcing a fourth overtime session.
Block to Block
For the second straight week a Bulldog redshirt freshman blocked a field goal. Back-up offensive guard Andrew Jackson blocked a Texas A&M field goal attempt from the middle. It was the 72nd block of the Pat Hill era. A.J. Jefferson had a block against Sacramento State in the season opener. On Fresno State's next series Jackson replaced injured Adam McDowell, who missed the rest of the game with an injury.
Mathews the Monster
True freshman Ryan Mathews continues to impress early in the season. He finished the game with 66 yard and scored his first career touchdown. The 2006 national prep rushing champion, Mathews is Fresno State's leading rusher with 148 yards and he averages 6.5 yards per carry.
Overtime
The Bulldogs played their first overtime game since winning the 2004 MPC Computers Bowl, a 37-34 win over No. 18 Virginia. The triple overtime game was the longest in Bulldog history. The Dogs played in a two overtime game in 1999, losing at Hawaii 31-24. Fresno State is now 3-4 in overtime games. The game lasted 4 hours and 21 minutes, one of the longest in terms of time in Bulldog history.
Bear Again, Again and Again
Junior Bear Pascoe is making a strong case for the John Mackey Award. After two games he has four touchdowns and leads the Dogs in receptions and yards. He has touchdown receptions in consecutive games to open the 2007 season by scoring three today against No. 23 Texas A&M. After two games he's already doubled his career touchdown total. Pascoe has 10 receptions for 161 yards and four touchdowns, leading the team in yards and touchdowns.
Q
Sophomore linebacker Quaadir Brown made his first appearance since the 2005 Liberty Bowl. Brown missed the entire 2006 season with an injury. Brown had a career-high 14 tackles against the Aggies, including one for a loss.

Today's crowd at Kyle Field was 75,922, the eighth-largest ever to watch a Bulldog game. Here are the top attended Fresno State games. All of these games have been played in the last 12 years.

Noteworthy
Texas A&M's safety in the second quarter was the first by a Bulldog opponent since Dec. 30, 2003, when UCLA had one against the Dogs in the Silicon Valley Football Classic. Fresno State won that game 17-9 ... Redshirt freshman Todd Chisom grabbed an Aggie fumble in the third quarter that led to Fresno State's first touchdown. It was the first of his career and the first of the season by the Dogs ... Fresno State is now 20-11-1 against schools from the state of Texas and Saturday's loss snapped a five-game winning streak against Lonestar State schools ... Seyi Ajirotutu's 30-yard reception in the third quarter was the longest of his career and his first this season. His two-point conversion in the fourth quarter to tie the game was the first time he scored in his career ... the Bulldog's 80-yard drive against the Aggies matched their longest of the season ... freshman Ben Jacobs led the team with 16 tackles, while senior Marcus Riley had a career-high 15 tackles in the game ... Anthony Harding scored two touchdowns for the Dogs today, a career-high for the sophomore ... the Dogs held the Aggies to 79 passing yards and have allowed just 138 passing yard through two games this season ... freshman receiver Devon Wylie had one of the biggest plays in the game with a 44-yard catch and run the final minute of the game on a third down play. That play led to a Brandstater to Pascoe touchdown to force overtime.
