Softball Picked Second in WAC Poll

FRESNO, Calif. - The 2008 Western Athletic Conference Pre-Season Softball poll was announced and Fresno State was selected to finish second behind the 2007 Regular Season Champion Hawai'i. Three Bulldogs, Haley Perkins, Jenna Cervantez and Nicole Angene were all named to the pre-season team.
The Bulldogs won the 2007 WAC Tournament Championship after finishing second to Hawai'i in the regular season. They made their 26th-straight NCAA Tournament and finished 1-2 in the NCAA Palo Alto Regional.
Cervantez, a senior, second baseman from Clovis, Calif., and Perkins, a junior third baseman from Fresno, Calif., were both first-team All-WAC selections and WAC All-Tournament selections in 2007. Perkins was also named to the NCAA Palo Alto All-Regional team.
Angene, a freshman, utility player from Norco, Calif., was a four year letterwinner at Norco High School and also recruited by NCAA powerhouses Tennessee, Texas and Oklahoma.
The 2008 season begins with a double-header against Pacific on Feb. 9 at Bulldog Diamond.
