Scouting the Broncos
The Broncos are the highest scoring team in the league (83.0 ppg), more than seven points per game higher than New Mexico State. Coming off consecutive 95-point games (at Nevada and Hawaii), Boise State is led by a quartet of powerful scorers. Reggie Larry leads the team in scoring (18.3 ppg) and rebounding (9.1 rpg). Three others (Matt Nelson, Tyler Tiedeman and Matt Bauscher) are averaging more than 12 points per game in WAC contests. Nelson and Tiedeman are each averaging over 17 points per game. They lead the league in field goal percentage (.520) and three-point percentage (.404).
Against the Broncos
The Dogs have won 12 of the 21 games in the series, but lost two of three last season. The most difficult loss was in the first round of the WAC tournament, in which the Broncos upset a hot-playing Bulldog team 78-73. The series began in 1976, a 72-70 Fresno State victory. The Dogs are 8-2 against the Broncos in Fresno.
Dogs Lead WAC in Defense
Fresno State is the WAC's top defensive squad, holding opponents to just 66.4 points per game this season. They will need to that this week as they host two of the WAC's top scoring outfits, WAC scoring leader Boise State (85.0 ppg) and No. 3 Nevada (74.1 ppg). The Dogs are second in the WAC in field goal percentage defense (.336) and lead the WAC in three point field goal percentage defense (.330). Fresno State is also the WAC's top unit in taking care of the ball, with a +2.80 turnover margin. The Dogs average a league-low 11.7 turnovers per game, coming off a six-turnover performance against San Jose State.
Eddie Loves the SMC
There's no place like home for Bulldog shooting guard Eddie Miller. The senior sharp-shooting is hitting more than 47% of his three point attempts (40-85) and in WAC home games this season, Miller is averaging 27 points, three rebounds, one assist and one block while shooting .538 (14-26) from three-point land.
Miller Leads the WAC
Senior guard Eddie Miller continues to lead the Western Athletic Conference in three point goals made per game (3.4). Miller has 68 treys this season and ranks ninth in the WAC in three-point field goal percentage (.412). Miller entered the week ranked 10th in the WAC in scoring, 13.8 points per game.
Dogs and Treys
The Bulldogs have been raining down three point field goals all season and are leading the WAC with more treys than No. 2 Boise State. Fresno State's 169 threes this season rank No. 32 among all Division I programs this season. Not only are the Dogs making a lot of threes, they do it with a high percentage. Fresno State is making .335 of three point field goal attempts.
Ned's Nugget
Without question, Fresno State's most improved player has been freshman Ned Golubovic. He has become Fresno State's third-leading scorer in WAC games (9.3 ppg). He's hitting 55 percent of his field goal attempts in WAC games, and made 8-of-20 from three (.538). He's coming off a season-high 15 points against San Jose State.
From Cleveland
"Boise State is a very good team. This is Greg's (Graham) best team. They have some real weapons. Reggie Larry is the best player in the league this season. He creates so many challenges. He can score and rebound. They will be a tough team and we will need all of the energy we can muster in the Save Mart Center Monday night," Fresno State head coach Steve Cleveland.
