Bulldogs Host Nevada

FRESNO, Calif. - In a battle for first place in the WAC, the Fresno State women's basketball team plays host to the University of Nevada on Thursday at 7 p.m. The game can be heard live on 790 ESPN, the Deuce and seen on Comcast Channel 14.
Scouting Nevada
Nevada is 14-5 and 5-1 in WAC play and sit a half game beyond the Bulldogs for first place in the WAC. Dellena Criner leads the Wolf Pack in scoring at 17.8 points a game. She is shooting 44 percent from the field and 42 percent from the 3-point line. Mikail Price is scoring 10.9 points a game. Nevada is scoring 70.8 points a game and shooting 40.5 percent from the field.
Bulldogs against Nevada
Fresno State leads the overall series 22-8. Last year each team won on the opponents home court. The Bulldogs have won five of the last seven meetings. The last time the two teams played in the Save Mart Center Nevada pulled out a 68-61 victory.
Win Streak Snapped
The Bulldogs nine game win streak that was snapped on Monday at Boise State tied a school record for most wins in school history. The four teams that have recorded nine straight wins are the 1986-87, 1984-85, 1979-80 and now the 2007-08 team.
Win No. 100
Adrian Wiggins earned his 100th career victory on Saturday when the Bulldogs won at San Jose State 83-65. He is 100-51 overall and boasts a .662 winning percentage. His first ever win as a head coach was a 70-66 victory over Drury University, when Wiggins coached at Cameron University. Wiggins has the best winning percentage in Fresno State history at .638. He is currently 60-34 in his three plus seasons as head coach.
Scoring Streak Comes to An End
Tierre Wilson's impressive streak of 30 straight games scoring in double figures came to an end at Boise State when she scored only eight points and fouled out with 6:11 left in Monday's game. During the 30-game stretch Wilson scored a career high of 28 points in a road win at Long Beach State on December 7, 2007.
Wilson Moves Into Elite Company
Tierre Wilson moved into the top 10 for career point leaders at Fresno State in Saturday's win at San Jose State. She currently sits in 10th place with 1,166 points and needs seven points to move into ninth place
Three's a Charm
Fresno State has shot more 3-pointers than any school in the WAC this year with 451 attempts. At the rate in which the Bulldogs are shooting from beyond the arc, they are on pace to break the school record for most 3-pointers in a season. The single season record is 561 attempts back in the 2002-03 season. That year they also set a school record by making 166 three's. The school record for the best 3-point percentage is 39.5 in the 1989-90 season.
Already this year Fresno State has connected on 153 of 451 attempts while shooting 33.9 percent. The 153 trey's puts Fresno State in 12th place in the NCAA for 3-pointers made per game. They have shot over 50 percent or better in two games this year. Against Sacramento State the Dogs were 10-20 and against Cal-State Northridge they were 10-for-17 (58.8%).
Ross and Bulldogs in NCAA Rankings
Jaleesa Ross is ranked 34th in the NCAA in three-point field goal percentage as of January 27. Since the rankings came out Ross' 3-point percentage improved to 42.5 percent following Monday's Boise State game. That mark would put her in 21st place. As a team the Dogs are ranked 12th in 3-pointers made per game.
Blazing Start
Fresno State's 6-1 start in WAC play ties the 2005-06 team for the best conference start in school history. That year the Bulldogs got off to a 10-1 start in WAC play.
Streakin' Hot
In the last 10 games Tierre Wilson is shooting 47.2 percent from the field while Jaleesa Ross has hit on 31 of 64 attempts for 48.4 percent and scoring 13.4 points a game. Ross is also shooting 46.2 percent from the field. Erica Henry is averaging 6.1 rebounds over the last 10 games. As a team, the Bulldogs are averaging 73.4 points a game and holding teams to 62.1.
