Scouting Boise State
Boise State is the preseason favorite to win the WAC this year. The Broncos enter their WAC opener with an 8-4 record. The Broncos boast the Preseason Player of the Year in Jessica Thompson. She is averaging 15.9 points and 4.5 rebounds a game. Tasha Harris leads Boise State in scoring at 17.1 points a contest.
Bulldogs against Boise State
Fresno State leads the overall series against the Broncos 10-8. In the most recent meeting Boise State defeated the Bulldogs in the second round of last year's WAC tournament. Fresno State has won six of the last eight meetings.
Four Straight and Counting
The Bulldogs current four-game win streak is the longest since the 2005-06 season. During that year the Dogs had win streaks of four wins or more three different times.
Three's a Charm
Fresno State has shot more 3-pointers than any school in the WAC this year with 300 attempts. At the rate in which the Bulldogs are shooting from beyond the arc, they are on pace to break the school record for most 3-pointers in a season. The single season record is 561 attempts back in the 2002-03 season. That year they also set a school record by making 166 three's. The school record for the best 3-point percentage is 39.5 in the 1989-90 season. Already this year Fresno State has connected on 104 of 300 attempts while shooting 34.7 percent.
Pack the House
The January 17th contest against Hawai'i is being tabbed as Pack the House Night. All students get free tickets to the game. Tickets can be picked up at the University Student Union in advance or at the Save Mart Center Box Office on game day. Groups of 10 or more are only $2 each. All Fresno State faculty and staff, along with military, fire and police personnel and their families are just $2 with ID at the Save Mart Center box office.
WAC Openers
Fresno State has won five of its last six WAC openers. The Bulldogs have won four straight WAC openers, beating Louisiana Tech 75-52, Idaho 84-75, Utah State 60-58 and Hawai'i 70-48. The Dogs lost to Hawai'i in 2003-04 and beat Rice in 2002-03.
Bombs Away
This year the Dogs are not afraid to fire the 3-pointer as they have attempted at least 14 in every game. Fresno State's 300 3-point attempts is the most by any school in the WAC. The Bulldogs best 3-point percentage of the season was against Cal-State Northridge when they 10-for-17 (58.8%).
