FRESNO, Calif. - For all of the accomplishments Pat Hill has earned during his brilliant coaching career, none makes him more proud than when his Bulldogs are recognized for their academic successes.
Under Hill, the Dogs' Academic Progress Rate (APR) score has been nationally recognized. Fresno State has produced a WAC high 109 Academic All-WAC selection in the last 11 years, including a school record 16 honorees in 2007.
The good news continued to come in today as three Bulldogs were named to the named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 8 team.
Junior safety Moses Harris was selected for the second straight year. Harris has earned a 3.55 Grade Point Average (GPA) with a Business Finance major who spent part of his summer in Hong Kong learning international trade. As a three-year starter on the team, he's among the top tacklers in the Western Athletic Conference.
Sophomore fullback Vince Pascoe has a 4.0 GPA in Mechanical Engineering. He's been an important part of Fresno State's offense this season, scoring one touchdown and providing big blocks for running backs Ryan Mathews, Lonyae Miller and Anthony Harding, who each ranked in the top 100 of NCAA running backs.
Sophomore guard Andrew Jackson was named as an offensive lineman. Jackson has a 3.93 GPA in Business and is in his second season as a starter on Fresno State's high-powered offensive team.
All three student-athletes are now eligible for Academic All-America consideration.
"We are glad these guys are on the Academic All-America list," said Hill. "They are Valley players who have come in here and been model student-athletes. They are great examples of the dedication our players have toward academics and earning a degree. We take great pride in our academic accomplishments."
The CoSIDA Academic All-America team will be selected by a committee comprised of Sports Information Director's from across the nation. District 8 includes FBS and FCS schools in the western United States, including most WAC schools, all of the Pac 10 schools, and schools from the Mountain West and Big Sky Conferences.
Fresno State had the second-highest number of players selected among all of the teams in the district. Utah and BYU each had four players on the Academic All-District 8 team while Boise State and Fresno State each had three. The Pac 10 only had three total players selected, one each from Washington State, Oregon and Arizona State.
