`Dogs to Battle Grizzlies on Sunday Afternoon
The `Dogs continue their four-game homestand as the Montana Grizzlies make their first trip to the Save Mart Center for a Sunday matinee on Dec. 14 at 1 p.m. Fresno State is on a two-game winning streak after beating Cal State Bakersfield on Wednesday night, their first winning streak of the early season.
About the Grizzlies
Montana is 5-4 on the season and is currently on a three-game winning streak as it has beaten Texas-Arlington (67-65), Denver (63-44) and North Dakota (83-63). Third-year Head Coach Wayne Tinkle boasts a winning career record for his alma mater by earning a 36-35 mark with the Grizzlies. Senior forward Jordan Hasquet leads Montana with an average of 14.7 points and 5.9 rebounds per contest. The Grizzlies finished with a 14-16 record in 2007-08.
Against the Grizzlies
Fresno State leads the overall series with Montana, 4-3. The Bulldogs have won three of the last four meetings between the two schools, but have not played in 22 years when the Grizzlies won 80-65 at home on Dec. 6, 1986. The `Dogs are 2-0 versus the Grizzlies in Fresno.
Cleveland Earns Win in 100th Game as `Dogs Roll Roadrunners
The Fresno State Bulldogs earned a non-conference win by beating the Cal State Bakersfield Roadrunners 66-51 on Wednesday night in the Save Mart Center. The victory came on head coach Steve Cleveland's 100th game with the Bulldogs and he improved his record at Fresno State to 54-46. Freshman guard Paul George led the Bulldogs in scoring a game-high 17 points and hitting five 3-pointers for his second straight game while junior forward Sylvester Seay added 15 points, including the first seven Bulldog points . Sophomore forward Nedeljko Golubovic grabbed a career-high nine rebounds as the `Dogs outrebounded their competition for the third consecutive contest. Fresno State improved to 4-4 on the year. Cal State Bakersfield fell to 3-6 on the season and were led by junior forward Trent Blakley's 11 points on the night.
Bulldogs Hosts 2nd Annual Children with Cancer Holiday Party
Men's coach Steve Cleveland and women's coach Adrian Wiggins hosted 107 families, including 250 children who are suffering from cancer and their siblings, for the Second Annual Children with Cancer Holiday in the Save Mart Center on Monday night. The event includes activities, dinner and toys for the children along with an opportunity to take pictures with Fresno State mascot TimeOut, Santa Claus as well as student-athletes from both the men's and women's basketball teams and Fresno State cheerleaders. The families also received turkeys and other food for upcoming Christmas and Holiday dinners. Cleveland ran the event while coaching at BYU.
