Two Bulldogs Earn All-America Honors

FRESNO, Calif. - The preseason awards to continue to pile on for the Fresno State baseball team. A day after Collegiate Baseball ranked the Bulldogs No. 16 in the preseason polls, Tommy Mendonca and Alan Ahmady were honored with preseason All-America honors by Collegiate Baseball.
Mendonca was named First Team All-American, while Ahmady was named Third Team All-American. This is the second preseason All-American honor for Ahmady.
The infielders and the 2009 team are set to defend their WAC Title and National Title. In 2008, Mendonca and Ahmady helped the Bulldogs win Fresno State's first NCAA National title and third consecutive WAC title.
The third basemen, Mendonca, had an amazing run defensively and tied the College World Series record of home runs hit with four. The College World Series MVP spent the summer playing with Team USA overseas. Mendonca lead the team in home runs with 19.
First Team All-WAC first basemen, Ahmady, was second in the nation in RBI's with 92 and sixth in the nation in hits with 110. Ahmady made a play at first base that would later be named Sportscenters No. 1 Play of the Day.
The `Dogs open the season against Washington at Pete Beiden Field on Feb. 20.
"Join the State - Fresno State!" - The Fresno State Baseball team kicks off the 2009 season on Friday, February 20 as they host Washington. First pitch at Pete Beiden Field is scheduled for 6:05 pm.
