FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State junior right-hander Tanner Scheppers earned the first Western Athletic Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week Award for the 2008 season, as announced the WAC Monday afternoon.
Scheppers joins Louisiana Tech first baseman Albie Goulder, the WAC's Batter of the Week, as the reciepients of their respective awards for the week of Feb. 18-24.
In Saturday's second game of a double-header against UC Davis, Scheppers started and threw seven complete innings, allowing only four hits and striking out 10 Aggie batters. Scheppers guided the Bulldogs to their first victory of the 2008 season and was the only Bulldogs starter to not allow a run in the four-game series.
Earlier this year, Scheppers was named a third-team preseason All-American by Baseball America, and is their 14th-best junior prospect in college baseball this season. Scheppers is also on USA Baseball's Golden Spikes Award Watch List, which aims to select college baseball's best player through the course of the season.
