No. 20 Anastasia Petukhova Wins WAC Player of the Week

FRESNO, Calif. - Anastasia Petukhova, a sophomore from Moscow, Russia, (A.M. Gorky), shined for the Bulldogs in three victories over No. 32 Florida International, No, 38 UNLV and No. 34 Texas A&M, Feb. 22-24.
The No. 14 nationally-ranked pair of Petukhova and teammate Renata Kucerkova won all of their doubles matches, convincingly defeating Maria Spenceley and Alyona Tsutskova of No. 32 Florida International, 8-1, topping No. 38 UNLV's Anna Maskaljun and Katy Williams, 8-3, and beating Anna Blagodarova and Michelle Sammons of No. 34 Texas A&M, 8-6.
In singles, Petukhova, ranked No. 20 in singles was victorious at the No. 2 singles position, winning each match in straight sets. She defeated Egle Petrauskaite of No. 32 Florida International, 6-2, 6-2, topped No. 38 UNLV's Kristina Nedeltcheva, 6-4, 6-2, and beat Anna Blagodarova of No. 34 Texas A&M, 6-4, 6-2. Petukhova has won seven-straight matches in singles and is now 22-4 overall and 4-1 in dual matches this season.
This is the second career Player of the Week honor for Petukhova, earning the award once as a freshman.
