Angene Picks Up Third Win of the Season

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - In the second game of the day for Fresno State at the San Diego Classic, thet Bulldogs picked up a 2-1 win over Cal State Bakersfield. Nicole Angene picked up her third win of the season as she improved to 3-2 and the No. 22 ranked Bulldogs upped their record to 12-3.
Haley Perkins singled to right field to lead off the inning in the first. Haley Gilleland reached first on a fielder's choice and then stole second base. Caitlin Stiglich would then hit an infield single to first and Gilleland advanced to third. Jenna Cervantez walked to load the bases with one out, but the Bulldogs would leave the bases loaded in the bottom of the first.
Brooklyn Stuart had the first hit of the game for the Roadrunners with a single to right field in the top of the second.
Lindsay Milchovich led off the bottom of the second with a single to left field. Brooke Phipps reached first on a fielder's choice. Michelle Palazuelos hit a single to right field which sent Phipps to second with one out.
Haley Perkins with a single and an RBI to left field which scored Phipps from second. Gilleland hit a sacrifice to the pitcher which moved the runners to second and third with two outs.
The Bulldogs would leave two on base but take the 1-0 lead in the second.
Cal State Bakersfield tied the game after Pikake Nutter-Guadet hit a infield single and scored off a single to center by Bethany Snow.
Phipps hit a single to right field in the bottom of the fourth and she stole her first base of the season. Haley Perkins reached first on an error and Phipps scored from second on the play to give the `Dogs the lead back to 2-1 in the fourth.
Stefanie Frei hit a triple to right center to lead off the top of the sixth for CSUB. Morgan Melloh then entered the game and struck out the side as the Roadrunners left a runner on third.
Melloh earned her second save of the season as she had three strikeouts.
It was the first meeting between the two teams since 1986 and the first since CSUB moved up to Division I. The bulldogs are now 3-0 all-time vs. the Roadrunners.
The Bulldogs play Saint Peter's at 11:30 a.m. and Harvard at 7 p.m. tomorrow on the campus of the University of San Diego.

The next home game is a doubleheader on Tuesday, March 4 against Campbell beginning at 6 p.m. on Two-for-Tuesdays where tickets and hot dogs are buy one get one free.
