FRESNO, Calif. -- Gonzaga defeated Utah 10-5 on the second day of the 30th annual Pepsi Johnny Quik tournament at Pete Beiden Field in Fresno, Calif.
The Gonzaga Bulldogs scored six runs in the first three innings powered by Michael Rhodes and Ryan Wiegand, who both had two RBI homeruns. Rhodes hit his first homerun of the season in the second inning followed by Weigand's fourth homer in the third inning.
Utah made a comeback in the sixth inning with four runs putting them within two at 7-5. Devin Walker doubled to center field and had three RBIs. Corey Shimada had an RBI in the inning as well.
Gonzaga countered with three more runs without a single base hit in the bottom half of the sixth to run the score to 10-5.
Utah will play New Mexico State at 10 a.m. Wednesday morning while Gonzaga plays Portland at 2 p.m.
