Indiana's Matt Bashore was breezing along against Portland, just as the wind was blowing through Pete Beiden Field. In six innings, he allowed no runs, four hits and struck out eight holding together a 6-0 lead.
The Pilots loaded the bases with no outs and the top of the order due up in the seventh inning. A visit to the mound by the coach may have been the calming effect Bashore needed. He proceeded to strike out the side, two looking, to propel the Hoosiers out of the inning and onto victory.
Indiana defeated Portland, 7-0, at the 30th Annual Pepsi Johnny Quik Classic at Fresno State's Pete Beiden Field. This was the final game of round-robin play. Indiana can play for the tournament championship if New Mexico State defeats Gonzaga (game time 2:05 p.m. PDT).
Bashore pitched eight innings total, striking out 12. Indiana tossed the first shutout of the tournament.
Indiana scored once in each of the first three innings and a three spot in the sixth. 3B Tyler Rogers led off the second with homer to pace Indiana.
Saturday's schedule will be finalized after the New Mexico State vs. Gonzaga game.
