Tournament Begins With No. 6 Michigan

FULLERTON, Calif. - The Fresno State softball team begins play in the Judi Garman Classic in Fullerton, Calif., against No. 6/6 Michigan. The No. 14/19 Bulldogs are 25-5 overall after sweeping Northern Colorado on Tuesday. The Michigan game will begin at 1:30 p.m. followed by the Bulldogs playing Utah at 8 p.m.
Michigan is 21-2 on the year. This will be the highest ranked opponent of the season for the Bulldogs. While the Bulldogs lead the overall series 6-3 against the Wolverines, Michigan has won the last three meetings dating back to 2001. Fresno State's last win over Michigan was a 1-0 victory in 2001.
Utah is 14-13 while defeating Cal State Fullerton last weekend and falling to No. 25 Long Beach State at the San Diego Classic II. They also fell to Texas A&M and defeated San Diego at the tournament. Wednesday night they fell 3-0 to No. 1 Arizona State in the first game of the Judi Garman Classic. Fresno State holds a 34-10 advantage over Utah, winning the last 15 meetings dating back to 1997. The last meeting was a 1-0 Bulldog victory in 2006.
