Bulldogs Rally For Win in Game Two vs. Camels

FRESNO, Calif. - The Bulldogs won the first game of Tuesday's night's doubleheader vs. Campbell in ease 7-0 before an exciting four-run sixth inning to rally in game two for a 5-4 victory at Bulldog Diamond. The Bulldogs, who are ranked No. 21 by USA Softball and No. 23 by the NFCA are now 17-3 on the season.
Game 1
Morgan Melloh struck out two in the top of the first as she would end with 10 in the game, making it her seventh game with double-digit strikeouts in 16 appearances on the year. This was Melloh's 10 complete game and her 11th win on the season.
Haley Perkins extended her hitting streak to nine games with a single to lead off the game for the Bulldogs in the bottom of the first.
Shortstop Haley Gilleland followed Perkins with a single to left field. Fellow freshman Caitlin Stiglich hit a pop fly to left field and Perkins and Gilleland advanced to second and third with one out.
Perkins would score from third on a wild pitch to give the `Dogs the 1-0 lead.
Designated player Aja Scheuber hit her third home run of the season, a two-run shot to left center field for a 3-0 Bulldog lead after one.
The only hit of the game for the Camels came off a shot to left field by Courtney Quinn. It was Melloh's third complete game one-hitter.
The Bulldogs would add to their lead in the bottom of the fifth with a Nicole Angene single to right. Michelle Palazuelos pinch ran and an Ashley White sacrifice would advance the runner with one out. Gilleland would earn an RBI with a single to center to score Palazuelos from second to make it 4-0 in the bottom of the fifth..
Scheuber walked to lead off the sixth and Lisamarie Coronado reached on an error with no outs. Melloh hit her first home run of the season, a three run bomb to right field to extend the lead to 7-0, which would be the final score after seven.
The Bulldogs had seven runs on eight hits, two by Gilleland and three by Perkins. Melloh led the team with three RBI's, Scheuber also had two RBI's of her own.
Game 2
Jenna Cervantez would lead off the second with a hit to center field. Aja Scheuber would walk and eventually score on an error by the shortstop to give the `Dogs the early 1-0 lead.
Courtney Quinn hit a sacrifice fly to center in the top of the third to score Lizzie Goldbach to give the Camels their first run of the night and tie the game at 1-1.
Katie Hinton would hit a infield single and scored off a two-run home run by Amanda Littlejohn as the Camels took a 3-1 lead after three.
Amanda Miller would hit an infield single to left and score from first off a double by Keeli Shea Micheal to extend the Camel lead to 4-1.
Freshman Ashley Cox entered to replace Angene in the fourth inning. Cox had a career-high four strkeouts.
Andrea Ortega walked to lead off the bottom of the fifth and with one out reached second on a passed ball. Perkins and Gilleland had back-to-back walks to load the bases with one out. The Bulldogs would leave the bases loaded.
Scheuber would hit a double to left field with no outs in the bottom of the sixth. Palazuelos would pinch run for her and she would score off a double by Lindsay Milchovich to left field to cut the Camels lead to 4-2.
Mallory Perkins would reach third on a wild pitch. Andrea Ortega would bring in Mallory Perkins from third on an infield single. Ashley White reached first on a fielder's choice and Brooke Phipps re-entered to run for her and stole second.
Phipps would score on a single by Haley Perkins, which extended her hitting streak to 10 games.
A single to left field by Gilleland would score Haley Perkins from first and give the Bulldogs the lead for good at 5-4.
Cox picked up her second win of the season as she improves to 2-0 and Melloh earned her third save of the year.
