Ahmady Goes 5-for-5 Against Nevada

RENO, NV - After trailing for seven innings, the Fresno State baseball team rallied to take an 11-8 lead in the eighth inning but the Wolf Pack came back to score four runs in the bottom half of the inning to win the game 12-11 on Sunday afternoon at Peccole Park.
The loss drops Fresno State to 26-20 and 14-6 in conference while Nevada improved to 25-18 overall and 12-8 in WAC. Despite the loss, Fresno State still sits atop first place in the WAC.
The Bulldogs pounded out 16 hits on the day, led by Alan Ahmady's 5 for 5 day with three RBIs that included a double and a homerun. Danny Muno, Erik Wetzel, Steve Susdorf, Ryan Overland and Tommy Mendoca all had two hits for the Dogs. Gavin Hedstrom had one hit but it improved his WAC best hitting streak to 16 games.
Fresno State trailed 8-6 going into the eighth inning when they rallied to take the lead. Mendonca started the inning with a single to right field and Hedstrom reached on a fielder's choice. Mendonca was able to get to third on the play thanks to a throwing error by the Nevada third baseman. Then with one out, Wetzel hit a three-run homerun to give Fresno State a 9-8 lead.
Susdorf then doubled to left field and Ahmady followed with a two-run shot over the left field fence to up the lead to 11-8. Travis Simas knocked in the winning runs for Nevada on a three-run homerun.
Fresno State struck first in the top of the second as Ahmady doubled to right-center. After a successful bunt by Ryan Overland, Steve Detwiler hit a sacrifice fly to center field that allowed Ahmady to score.
Nevada came back with five runs in the bottom half of the inning to lead 5-1. The Dogs then rallied with a two run third inning to cut the Wolf Pack lead to 5-3.
The scoring started when Muno singled to right field with two outs and Wetzel followed with a single to left. Susdorf continued the offensive attack with an RBI single to center field, allowing Muno to score. Ahmady then singled home Wetzel for the second run of the inning.
Nevada came back with two runs in the fourth but thanks to a three-run homerun by Overland, the Dogs cut their deficit to 7-6 in the top of the fifth inning. Wetzel reached base via the walk and Ahmady singled to right field to set up Overland's homerun with two outs.
Nevada scored a run in the bottom half of the fifth. Fresno State threatened to score in the six as they had the bases loaded but Mario Rivera got himself out of the jam when he forced Susdorf into a ground out to the short stop.
Fresno State returns to the field on Wednesday when they play at San Francisco. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
