FRESNO, Calif. - Coach Dan Brown enters his 12th season with Bulldog football and seventh season as the defensive coordinator. Brown has led a Bulldog defense that sets the standard for excellence in the WAC.
In the 2007 season Brown led players to earn titles like, First Team All-WAC, Tyler Clutts, and Defensive Player of the Year, Marcus Riley, all while battling his own personal health issues. Here is a chance to get to know Dan Brown, the man behind the defense.
1) If you weren't a football coach, what would you be?
Brown: A professional golfer, I would love to be in Tiger Woods' shoes.
2) What are you looking forward most to the 2008 season?
Brown: Getting started and playing. I am anxious to see what the new guys will bring to the table and carry the momentum that baseball started over to the football season. I am looking forward to traveling to Rutgers and see the outcome of the whole season.
3) What is your favorite football memory?
Brown: I've got plenty, but looking up at the clock with four minutes left and leading USC when they were ranked number one in the country. We ended up losing that game, but knowing where we had come from and being in that position is memorable. I grew up around USC, so there was a lot of history there.
4) What is your favorite hobby/past time outside of football?
Brown: My family is number one, so I love to spend time with them and be with them when I am not at football.
5) What is your favorite food?
Brown: My wife isn't going to like this, but my mom's cooking is my favorite. She makes cabbage rolls and a Syrian dish that is like a meat pie in bread.
6) If you could go any where in the world where would you go?
Brown: I have always wanted to see the Vatican and Rome, so I would have to say that I would visit there and see the sights.
7) What is your favorite play to call?
Brown: The players would laugh and say Eagle Thunder Dog, which is a max blitz.
8) If you could give one piece of advice, what would it be?
Brown: Play football at Fresno State
9) What is something that most people don't know about you?
Brown: In 12 years Coach Hill has never beat me in a game of golf.
10) Last season had to be difficult, battling cancer and coaching football. What was the most difficult thing you endured and what have you taken away from it?
Brown: The hardest thing was telling my family how serious it really was and seeing the emotional rollercoaster. Seeing the fear in their eyes was also hard. The main thing I took away from the experience was that my beliefs and faith will carry me through. My family, faith, and beliefs are stronger because of this and we realize how fortunate we are.
