Sept. 8, 2008
FRESNO, Calif. - This special "Gameday Alert" is very important for all fans attending Saturday's game versus Wisconsin:
The bus shuttle routes for the 2008 football season have been changed due to a change in the Federal Transportation Administration guidelines. In consultation with Fresno city traffic engineers, University Police Department and FAX representatives a bus shuttle route has been established to accommodate the large crowds and heavy traffic anticipated this season.
The change will provide a "bus only" lane surrounding the campus. The streets and lanes used will be the following:
- Right southbound lane on Woodrow between Barstow and Shaw
- Right westbound lane on Shaw Avenue between Woodrow and Cedar
- Right northbound lane on Cedar Avenue between Shaw and Barstow
- Right eastbound lane on Barstow between Cedar and Woodrow
The bus route will begin operation three hours prior to kickoff. The fifteen FAX shuttle busses will run two hours prior to kickoff of each game and after games to return fans to their respective lots. Public parking is available on the east side of campus, Lots A, V and J, just west of the Save Mart Center. Parking for events is $8 and the shuttles are free.
Fans may catch the shuttles before games at along Woodrow Avenue between Lot A and the Save Mart Center. Fans will be dropped off at the southeast corner of Cedar and Barstow. Following the games, fans can ride the shuttles from Cedar and Barstow and will be returned to the Woodrow Avenue pick-up location.
"In anticipation of large crowds, a dedicated bus route has been put place," said Amy Armstrong, spokesperson for the University Police Department. "We will provide additional traffic personnel at each of the major intersections that are affected in order to get fans to their respective lots in a timely and safe manner. The goal is to keep essential traffic flowing at the appropriate rate needed to accommodate the numbers of people attending the Bulldog football games."
Inbound and outbound traffic patterns will remain the same. Barstow Avenue will continue to be closed west bound at Maple Avenue.
FAN REMINDER
To make the game day experience more enjoyable, Fresno State is offering the following tips for fans this week.
-
Fans are urged to be in their seats of Bulldog Stadium by 7 p.m. Fresno State will honor the 2007-08 WAC Championship teams during pregame ceremonies and the Valley's Congressional delegation will honor the 2008 NCAA Championship Bulldog baseball team. In addition, a full and loud Bulldog Stadium will be a great way to show Valley Pride when the national ESPN broadcast goes on the air!
-
In order to expedite entrance into Bulldog Stadium, Fresno State recommends that each patron carry their own ticket. This speeds the ticket scanning process at the gates, allowing for a quick and smooth entrance into the stadium.
-
Fresno State's Bulldog Boulevard opens at 3:30 p.m. (always four hours prior to game time). Bulldog Boulevard will be the place to be for families and fans of all ages before every home Fresno State football game. Bulldog Boulevard offers live entertainment, inflatable games for all ages, TV's and video games in the "Dog Pound", food vendors, interactive displays, and more! Bulldog Boulevard will be located in the Red Lot, just east of Bulldog Stadium and north of Beiden Field. Admission is free.
- A new bus shuttle traffic pattern will be in operation on game day. Fans parking on campus near the Save Mart Center will find getting to the stadium more convenient with 15 FAX busses offering free shuttle service to the corner of Cedar and Barstow. As always, when traveling to a major sporting event fans are asked to plan ahead, be patient and safe on game days.
Healthy Choices Arrive at Bulldog Stadium
When most football fans think of food at a game, they think of hot dogs, and soda. This season Bulldog fans will have healthier choices while enjoying a game at Bulldog Stadium Fresno State and Kaiser Permanente have teamed up to offer healthier meal options at all home football and soccer games. Between the two sports there will be approximately 15 home games at Bulldog Stadium.
The new healthier meal choices, which will be offered in addition to the traditional stadium foods, will premiere at the football home opener on Sept. 13, against Wisconsin. The menu includes Fresno State-grown grapes, mini carrot cups, baked pretzels, roasted almonds, raisins, and sunflower seeds.
The new menu options were created primarily by Kaiser Permanente registered dietitians.
"The best snacks are real foods that come from the Central Valley," said Gail Embry, RD, CDE, Kaiser Permanente Health Education Dept. "It is a win-win situation for everyone."
Grand Occasions Catering will also be offering the new Kaiser Permanente Healthful Choices Menu to Bulldog fans wanting catered tailgate parties that are high on nutrition and taste, while low on fat.
