`Dogs Embark On First WAC Road Trip As BSN Debuts For 2009
Fresno State exits the Golden State for the second time this season as the Bulldogs take their first conference road trip this week. The `Dogs meet the Utah State Aggies on Thursday at 6 p.m. PST before traveling to Reno for a Saturday night date with the Nevada Wolf Pack at 7 p.m. PST. Both games can be seen on the Bulldog Sports Network (KAIL/MY13) with Ralph Wood and Bob Donewald calling the action. Fresno State is 7-9 on the season and looking for its first WAC win of the year.
About the Aggies
Utah State University holds a 26-game home winning streak and enters the contest as one of two undefeated WAC schools in conference play. The Aggies are 15-1 (3-0 WAC) this year. Senior forward Gary Wilkinson leads USU with 17.4 ppg and 8.5 rpg. Utah State was picked to finish second in the WAC in the coaches and media preseason poll. The Aggies are ranked 32nd nationally in the ESPN/USA Today coaches poll.
Against the Aggies
Fresno State trails the overall series with Utah State, 23-19. The `Dogs have won four of the past six contests with the Aggies while dropping the past two games, including a 79-66 loss in the last meeting of the schools on March 3, 2008 in Logan.
About the Wolf Pack
The University of Nevada sits at 9-7 on the season and is one game behind Utah State and Boise State for first place in conference play. Freshman forward Luke Babbitt is the reigning WAC Player of the Week and leads the Wolf Pack with 15.2 ppg and 7.3 rpg. Sophomore guard Armon Johnson adds 14.6 ppg and 3.5 rpg. Nevada was picked to finish first in the WAC in the coaches and media preseason poll.
Against the Wolf Pack
Fresno State trails the overall series with Nevada, 43-34. The `Dogs last defeated the Wolf Pack in Reno in 2005 (66-63). Fresno State and Nevada most recently met during the Quarterfinals of the 2008 WAC Tournament as the Wolf Pack won 64-57.
LAST WEEK: O'Neil Nets Career-High 22 Points Against Spartans
Senior swing guard Dwight O'Neil netted a career-high 22 points to go with nine rebounds and seven assists as Fresno State fell in overtime to San Jose State (71-68). The Bulldogs built a nine-point halftime lead as O'Neil drained 15 of his 22 points as the `Dogs shot a blistering 64.3 percent as a team during the first-half. Freshman guard Paul George recorded 18 points, grabbed six rebounds and forced a team-high three steals. Junior forward Sylvester Seay added nine points and six boards.
