Quest to Defend WAC Championship Begins

FRESNO, Calif- The quest to defend the 2008-09 WAC regular season and tournament championships began on Friday evening at the North Gym as the Fresno State women's basketball team held its first official practice.
The first practice is always an exciting time as players and coaches are anxious to see what lies ahead come November when non conference play starts.
"It is always exciting to begin a new season," Fresno State coach Adrian Wiggins said. "We have a great group of ladies who have worked hard in the off season to get better. Our newcomers will come in and compliment the team well. This team has big goals and we are ready to go to work in an effort to accomplish them."
The Bulldogs practiced at 7 p.m. and opened with various shooting drills before turning the focus to rebounding and defense for the majority of the practice.
Fresno State returns nine players off last years championship team in first-team All-WAC honoree Jaleesa Ross and second-team All-WAC player Hayley Munro. Brittny Jones, LaShay Fears, Joh-Teena Filipe, Emma Andrews, Marnique Arnold, Taja Edwards and Ashley Walker also return to the team.
Rosie Moult, Taylor Thompson, Jeanna Furst, Veronica Wilson and Ali Drennan are the incoming players that are preparing for their first game in a Bulldog uniform. Wilson will sit out this year after transferring from Boston College.
The Bulldogs begin exhibition play on November 4 against Fresno Pacific at 6 p.m. The first regular season game is Nov. 13 at UC Santa Barbara.
