FRESNO, Calif.- The success the Fresno State women's basketball team has had over the last two years by going to two straight NCAA tournament appearances and winning the 2008-09 WAC regular season and tournament championship hasn't gone unnoticed by the sports writers from around the country.
In the Preseason AP Top 25 poll that was released on Friday, the Bulldogs received three votes. It is the first time in school history Fresno State has received votes in the preseason polls.
"It is a great honor and we appreciate the recognition," Fresno State coach Adrian Wiggins said. "This is a reflection of the work the assistant coaches and players put in to make this program successful. While this is nice recognition we know we still have a lot of work to do to prepare for the start of the season."
Last year the Bulldogs received votes in the USA Today Coaches Poll after beating No. 22 TCU.
The polls also indicate the extremely tough schedule Fresno State has as Stanford, ranked No. 2, visits the Save Mart Center on December 30.
Upcoming opponents USC, Boston College, Louisiana Tech and TCU are also receiving votes in the AP Top 25.
Bulldog fans can get a chance to meet the women's team on Monday Nov. 2 at 6 p.m. when the team has an open practice with the men's team at 6 p.m. The players and coaches will be available to sign autographs from 7-7:30 p.m. The event is free to public and it will be held at the Save Mart Center.
On Wednesday, Nov. 4 the women's play an exhibition game at 6 p.m. against Fresno Pacific.
