FRESNO, Calif. - No. 22 Anastasia Petukhova of Fresno State dictated the pace of the day and knocked off Boise State's 47th-ranked Pichittra Thongdach and Texas' Aeriel Ellis on Friday in Los Angeles. The wins advanced her to the consolation semifinals of the ITA All-American main draw.
In the first round of the consolation bracket, Petukhova knocked off Thongdach, the Broncos' top player, 6-2, 6-2.
Petukhova kept her foot on the accelerator against Ellis. The senior from Moscow, Russia, took the first set, 6-3, and was even more dominant in the final set with a 6-0 victory.
"It was a good day," Fresno State head coach Simon Thibodeau said. "Anastasia played very solid and was moving well. She stayed calm and confident and played two really good matches. There are no easy matches here."
Next up for Petukhova will be the consolation semifinals on Saturday at 11:15 a.m.
