FRESNO, Calif. - Head Fresno State softball coach Margie Wright signed two student-athletes to National Letters of Intent on Monday. Chavonnia "Vonnie" Martin and Brooke Ortiz will attend Fresno State and play for Wright beginning in the 2010-11 season.

She has helped lead her team to a 75-25 record in three years and back-to-back District Championships. Last year, PSHS was an area finalist. In 2008, they posted an impressive 29-6 record.
Martin broke the single-season home run record her sophomore year as she hit seven home runs and batted .393 with 40 RBI's.
She is a three-time NFCA All-American scholar-athlete, a two-time first-time all-district honoree, the two-time PSHS Offensive MVP, a Dallas Morning News all-area second-team honoree, a NFCA all-region second-team honoree, was named to the TGCA all-state second-team and was selected by VYPE Magazine as one of the Top 20 Texas High School softball/baseball players.
"Vonnie is one of those kids that not a lot of people noticed and she was a diamond in the rough," Wright said. "My hope is that she will give us extra power offensively and hopefully be a person we can build our offensive around. I can't wait for her to get her."
Ortiz is a switch hitting shortstop from Lodi High School in Lodi, Calif. She made second-team infield her sophomore year and first-team her junior year.
Her sophomore season, Ortiz hit .361 with a .454 on base percentage, leading the team in runs and hits. The team posted a 20-10 record and made the Division I section playoffs.
In 2009-09 her junior season, she hit .295 for LHS and scoring 19 runs while driving in another nine as her team went 22-8.
Ortiz also played for the Runnin' Rebels and the Lodi Extreme. With the Extreme, she was named the 16-U MVP at Babe Ruth as she hit .571.
She has an overall GPA of 3.8 and is consistently on the honor roll.
"Brooke is a very exciting athlete and I think she is really going to bring a new dimension to our team," Wright added. "She is very versatile. I can use her anywhere and I think she will come through very well. There is a lot to be said about her excitement to come here and I think she will have a good career."
