Bulldogs Play Home Opener Against Saint Mary's

FRESNO, Calif. - After opening the season with three straight road games, the Fresno State women's basketball team plays its long-awaited home opener on Sunday at 2 p.m. against Saint Mary's. There is no radio or television for the game.
Fresno State vs. Saint Mary's
Saint Mary's leads the overall series 6-4. Since 1997, the Bulldogs have only won once in the last seven meetings and that was a 66-64 home win in 2002.
Scouting Saint Mary's
Saint Mary's is 1-1 and hosts Nevada on Friday night before traveling to Fresno on Sunday afternoon. Saint Mary's defeated Idaho State 76-69 at home in the season opener and then lost 68-65 at No. 11 Cal. Ashlee Smith leads the Gaels in scoring and rebounding at 12.5 points and 8.5 rebounds a game.
Celebrating the 2008-09 WAC Champions
In Sunday's home opener against Saint Mary's the Fresno State women's basketball team will receive their WAC championship rings for winning the WAC regular season and tournament championship and the banners will be dropped for going to a second straight NCAA tournament game and for winning the WAC titles. This will take place right before the starting lineups.
Recapping Games 1-3
Fresno State opened the season with a victory at UC Santa Barbara, 84-76 on Friday thanks to a career-high 25 points from Jaleesa Ross. The Bulldogs led USC on Sunday for a majority of the game but a late run by the Trojans gave Fresno State its first defeat. Jaleesa Ross had 22 points and Hayley Munro had 21 points while hitting five 3-pointers. Against TCU on Wednesday, the Bulldogs lost 63-52.
Ross Climbing the School Record Books
Jaleesa Ross has hit 193 3-pointers in her two plus seasons as a Bulldog. The 193 3-pointers ranks her third on the schools career Top 10 list for 3-pointers made. She needs 30 3-pointers to pass Staci Oddo (1993-96) and move into second place. Her 95 3-pointers made last season is a new Fresno State single season record, breaking the previous mark of 89, set by Ross last year and Lindsay Logan in 2000-01. The 95 3-pointers ranks Ross is fifth on the single season Top 10 list in the WAC for most 3-pointers made in a year.
Andrews Returns
After sitting out the 2008-09 season and the first three games of the 2009-10 season, junior guard Emma Andrews makes her return to the Bulldog lineup against Saint Mary's. Andrews played in all 33 games during the 2007-08 season. She averaged 5.2 points and played 23.8 minutes a game.
Bulldogs Against Schools From DI California Schools
Since 2000, Fresno State has played 22 Division I schools and they own an overall record of 55-28 against those schools. The Bulldogs have yet to lose to Cal Stat Northridge, Cal State Bakersfield, Long Beach State, Pepperdine, Sacramento State, San Diego, San Diego State, UC Irvine, UC Riverside and UC Santa Barbara since the start of the decade. The only Division I California Fresno State has not played since 2000 is UC Davis.
Approaching 1,000 Points
At the beginning of her junior season, Jaleesa Ross is approaching the 1,000 point mark as she currently has 934 career points through her first two plus seasons. She has averaged 13.5 points for her career, which is also the seventh best scoring average for a career.
