FRESNO, Calif. - Bulldog Diamond, the home of the Fresno State softball team will sport a new look at the home opener Thursday Feb. 26 as the bleachers along the outfield fence have been removed and a large berm has taken their place.
The large berm runs from foul line to foul line, is about 37 feet wide and sits about four feet high making it a perfect place for fans to get a good view of all the Bulldog softball action.
Fans are encouraged to come out and bring the whole family along as seating on the berm is unlimited. Umbrellas, lawn chairs and beach towels will be allowed in the berm area giving fans a more comfortable spacious seating option where they can stretch out, kick back and enjoy the action.
Bulldog diamond, built in 1996, seats 3,288 and holds the Top 5 all-time NCAA attendance records including the most total fans in a season with 55,746 and also the most fans at a single game with 5,724 walking through the gates against Arizona on March 14, 2000.
Along with giving Bulldog diamond more seating for more fans, the new berm in many opinions has also made it a more fan friendly stadium.
John Kriebs, Associate Athletic Director for facilities and operations, thinks that it will be a huge asset to bulldog diamond.
"It's great," Kriebs said "It will be better for the fan experience, it looks great and it really enhances the facility."
The berm is made of regular dirt and grass and was developed by Dave Christian Construction. Truxell & Valentino landscape developers Inc. also put in a lot of work on the berm by taking care of the fine grading, irrigation and hydro seeding for the grass.
"Join the State - Fresno State!" - The `Dogs' home opener is Thursday, February 26 against Utah Valley. First pitch at Bulldog Diamond is scheduled for 6:00 pm. It's Hero's Night at Bulldog Diamond and tickets can be purchased by visiting the Bulldog Ticket Office, calling 278-DOGS or online at gobulldogs.com.
