Dogs Improve to No. 8

FRESNO, Calif. - Coming off a strong month, the Bulldog Equestrian team moved up once again in the latest Varsity Equestrian Coaches Poll. The Bulldogs are ninth in this week's poll, moving past Kansas State in the rankings.
The Dogs beat Tennessee-Martin last weekend and won the Best in the West Invitational. The Dogs also suffered a one-point loss to South Carolina, ranked No. 4 in this week's poll.
As the 2008-09 Varsity Equestrian season heads down the home stretch, another change has taken place at the top in the most recent coaches' poll.
The Georgia Bulldogs, defending VENC Championships, returned to the top spot in the poll this week replacing Baylor. The Dawgs edged the Bears by three points in the voting by panel of coaches. Georgia is coming of a 12-7 win over Auburn, which has held the top spot in the poll for the majority of the season. The Tigers are ranked sixth in this week's poll, falling two positions.
Texas A&M remains in third place in the poll with 55 points, four behind No. 2 Baylor.
For the second time in consecutive rankings, South Carolina bumped up in the polls. The Gamecocks are fourth in this week's poll with 43 points.
TCU made a big jump in the polls, moving up two spots to No. 5 with 38 points while Oklahoma State dropped a spot to No. 7 this week's poll. The Horned Frogs, Tigers and Cowgirls were separated by three points.
The Fresno State Bulldogs moved past Kansas State for eighth place, edging the Wildcats 18 to 17 points.
New Mexico State remains ranked 10th.
South Dakota State and Tennessee-Martin each received votes in the poll.
The collegiate coaches competing under the Varsity Equestrian Championship umbrella initiated the national poll. The final poll of the season will be released April 21, 2009.
