Mendonca, Hedstrom Hit Home Runs

LOS ANGELES - The Fresno State bats were hot with both Tom Mendonca and Gavin Hedstrom hitting home runs. The Bulldogs are 10-6 this season.
Many Bulldog fans made the trip down I-5 to Los Angeles to support the Fresno State and Bulldog red filled Page Stadium.
In the top of the first inning, Mendonca hit a two-run home run to right field with two outs in his first at bat. Mendonca has seven home runs this season and 36th of his career at Fresno State. Mendonca is now tied for fourth with Beau Mills on the home run career record list.
Shortstop Danny Muno made a great defensive stop in the first inning keeping a Lion at first base. Mendonca also had a great stop and threw the runner out at first base.
The Lions answered with a two-run home run from Angelo Songco to tie the game at 2-2.
Senior Holden Sprague had another strong outing on the mound for the `Dogs. The righty threw five innings striking out two batters.
Gowens led off the second inning with a ground rule double to left center field.
Hedstrom hit his fourth sacrifice hit of the season advancing Gowens to third base. He was 3-for-4 on the afternoon with two runs and an RBI. Gowens scored the go ahead run as Trent Garrison was thrown out at first base and the Bulldogs lead 3-2.
The Bulldogs defense continued to dominant as Gowens made a diving catching in center field and kept a Lion from advancing to third base. Garrison threw the runner out at third to retire the inning.
The Lions scored four runs in the bottom of the six inning taking a 6-3 lead.
In the top of the seventh inning, Mendonca hit a double to right field and Alan Ahmady advanced to third base. Junior Steve Detwiler flew out in center field, but drove in Ahmady bringing the `Dogs within two runs.
Gowens hit a single to left center and Mendonca scored as the Bulldogs trailed 6-5. Hedstrom hit an inside the park home run to give the Bulldogs the 7-6 lead in the top of the seventh inning. It is the second home run of the season for the senior.
The Lions scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to give them the 8-7 win.
