Women's Basketball Ranks Seventh in West in Attendance

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State women's basketball team had an historic season, winning its second straight WAC regular season and tournament championship along with going to the NCAA tournament for the second straight year. The Bulldogs also tied the school record for wins with 24.
The on-court success meant that the Red Wave came to the Save Mart Center in full force to support the Bulldogs. Fresno State's home attendance of 2,361 was the seventh-best mark in the West and the 14th best mark out of all Non-BCS schools.
Fresno State had the second-best attendance out of all 23 Division I schools in the state of California. For the second straight year the Bulldogs also led the WAC in attendance and they ranked 53rd in the country in attendance.
"We had an historic season and we appreciate the Red Wave faithful who supported us this year," Fresno State coach Adrian Wiggins said. "As a team we talk about how great our fans are and how proud we are to represent Fresno State. It is an honor to play in front of our home fans at the Save Mart Center. "
Stanford has the top attendance in the state of California, averaging 3,953 fans a game. Seven schools in the state averaged 1,000 or more fans for the 2008-09 season.
New Mexico had the top attendance (8,069) in the West and out of the Non-BCS schools. Stanford (3,953), Montana (3,596), Arizona State (3,344), Wyoming (3,344), Gonzaga (2,399) and Fresno State (2,361) rounded out the top seven.
The top Non-BCS schools attended schools are New Mexico (8,069), Missouri State (4,750), Indiana State (4,100), Old Dominion (3,597), Montana (3,596), Middle Tennessee State (3,534), Wyoming (3,187), South Dakota State (2,803), Toledo (2,674), Murray State (2,648), Illinois State (2,430), Drake (2,418), Gonzaga (2,399) and Fresno State (2,361).
