Ahmady Launches a Home Run

DAVIS, Calif. - The Fresno State baseball team jumped ahead early in the game scoring two runs, but fell 11-3 to the UC Davis Aggies. The Bulldogs are 13-11 in non-conference play.
Leadoff batter Brennan Gowens started the game with a walk. Senior Gavin Hedstrom hit his sixth sacrifice bunt of the season to advanced Gowens to second base. Danny Muno knocked a single to shallow right field advancing Gowens to third base. Third baseman Tom Mendonca reached on a fielder's choice as Muno was tagged out at second and Gowens scored giving the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead.
Hedstrom is now tied for first in the WAC in sacrifice bunts. He is eight sacrifice hits behind the national leader.
UC Davis responded in the bottom of the first inning scoring one run to tie the game 1-1.
First baseman Alan Ahmady made a great diving stop and threw the runner out at first base preventing the Aggies from taking the lead.
Ahmady opened the second inning with a solo home run to left field and the Bulldogs regained the lead 2-1. It is the first home run of the season for the junior.
The Aggies answered in the second inning tying the game at two runs apiece. The Bulldogs infield prevented the Aggies from taking the lead after turning their 21st double play of the season.
Mendonca made a great jumping catch at third base to get the line out for the Bulldogs.
The Aggies took a 7-2 lead in the fourth inning after scoring the five runs. UC Davis extended its lead to 10-2 in the fifth inning with three runs. The Aggies added another run in sixth inning.
In the top of the eighth, Muno walked. Muno advanced to second base on the wild pitch. Mendonca singled to right field and Muno crossed home plate, but the Aggies went on to win 11-3.
The Bulldogs return to Beiden Field tomorrow to play UC Davis at 6:05.
