No. 21 `Dogs Host BYU

FRESNO, Calif. - The Bulldogs home tournament, the Bayer CropScience is finally here. After the Bulldogs started the season with three tournaments on the road, they will get to play an entire weekend at Bulldog Diamond beginning tonight, with a 7 p.m. game vs. BYU.
The first 2,500 fans to walk into the gates at Bulldog Diamond will get a Bulldog softball schedule magnet.
"Our fans are the best and it's nice to have a whole weekend at home," head coach Margie Wright said.
Fresno State is 8-6 on the season and is ranked No. 21 and No. 24 in the respective polls this week. No. 9 Cal is also in the tournament field this weekend along with BYU, Northern Illinois and Providence. The tournament continues with four games on Friday, five on Saturday and two on Sunday.
Last year, Houston was the tournament champion. Only BYU has competed in the tournament before and has an 8-14 record in two appearances with a third place finish. A tournament champion will be crowed and a trophy will go to the team with the best record. The runner-up will also receive a trophy. An MVP and an all-tournament team will also be named at the conclusion of the Fresno State vs. Cal game.
The Cougars .500 on the season at 10-10 and previously were receiving votes in both of the top 25 polls. Fresno State leads the overall series between the teams that began in 2000, with a 5-1 record. The two last met in the 2007 season. BYU's only win over the `Dogs was a 6-4 victory back in 2003. Fresno State has three shutouts in its five wins over the Cougars.
