Petukhova Named WAC Player of the Week

FRESNO, Calif. - The Western Athletic Conference announced Fresno State junior Anastasia Petukhova as the WAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week for the week of March 29-April 4 on Monday.
Petukhova went 3-0 in both singles and doubles matches on the week, helping the Bulldogs to three victories on the week, including two sweeps to start conference play. Petukhova first defeated Pepperdine's Alexandria Walters, 6-4, 6-1, in the Bulldogs 6-1 win over the 44th-ranked Waves. In the first match of the doubleheader on Saturday she didn't lose a game with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over San Jose State's Olivia Marshsall. The Bulls went to sweep the Spartans, 7-0. The junior from Moscow, Russia, finished the week by defeating Florence De Vrye of Nevada, 6-4, 7-6 (3), as Fresno State swept No. 56 Nevada, 7-0.
In doubles, she and partner Renata Kucerkova defended their No. 1 ranking by deating Pepperdine's Alex Liles and Anamika Bhargava, San Jose State's Amber Silverstone and Kerri Kummer and Nevada's Maria Mizyuk and Caroline Baily.
This is fourth week in a row a Bulldog has won the honor, and the first time this year for Petukhova.
