Equestrian Awards Handed out Sunday

FRESNO, Calif. - The 2008-09 Bulldog Equestrian season officially came to a close on Sunday afternoon with the annual awards banquet held at Pardini's in Northeast Fresno.
Head coach Dr. Becky Malmo honored the team after a strong season that saw them ranked in the Top 10 in the nation all season and qualified for the Varsity Equestrian National Championship tournament.
"We are so proud of the accomplishments of our seniors," said Malmo. "It's an exciting time as they leave the team and move on to the next phase in their lives but will miss each of them. They have been an important part of our program."
The nine seniors honored included:
- Kelsey Bullock
- Brooke Cranston
- Kaley Dela Rosa
- Rebecca Flood
- Haley Henderson
- Cambria Kissell
- Katy Miklic
- Katie Nenneker
- Katey Sellers
In addition to honoring the seniors, Malmo passed out awards for a variety of categories.
Freshman Shawna McClurg won two of the awards, Most Improved Western rider and she won the team Sportsmanship Award.
Kelsey Bullock, a senior captain, capped her brilliant career, winning the Award of Excellence, the top honor of the banquet. The award is given for combined excellence in athletic competition, leadership, academics and community service.
Freshman English rider Kimberly Hewson Budnik won the team's Rookie of the Year Award, while Nicole Roworth was selected the Most Improved English rider.
Jessica Petzrick won the team's "Work Horse" Award, given to the team member who performed above all others in the weight room, practices and events and horse care.
Malmo also announced the 2009-10 captains: Junior Keri Blackledge, sophomore Jill Tebbe, sophomore Adriane Smith, junior Lisa Wells and junior Jennifer Jory.
