FRESNO, Calif. - Days after Fresno State third baseman Tom Mendonca was drafted by the Texas Rangers in the second round, he earned his second All-American award of 2009. Baseball America announced their 2009 All-American team and placed Mendonca as the third team third baseman.
"Tom is a special player and we couldn't be more proud of him," said head coach Mike Batesole. "He's represented his school with class and on the field has been a game-changing player over the last two years. He's an All-American in every way."
Mendonca, the 2008 College World Series Most Outstanding Player and 2009 WAC Player of the Year, hit .339 and led the team with 27 home runs. The junior has the most home runs in Fresno State history after hitting 56 in his three year career as a Bulldog.
While at Fresno State, Mendonca won three WAC Tournament championships, two WAC League championships and in 2008 a National Championship.
