FRESNO, Calif. - Since leaving Fresno State former Bulldog women's basketball players Mirenda Swearengin and Chantella Perera have had great success playing basketball professionally.
Swearengin, the 2005-06 WAC Player of the Year, signed a contract to play with EB Eskilstuna Basket in Sweden. This will be her third year with the team and she reports to the team in September. In her previous two stints she has led the team in scoring at 18 points a game and she has averaged four assists, four steals and seven rebounds.
"I am very happy," Swearengin said. "This is what I want to do until my body doesn't allow me to do it anymore."
Swearengin is quick to credit the assistance of Bulldog women's basketball coach Adrian Wiggins for helping her achieve her goals.
"He's been really big," Swearengin said. "I don't think I'd be playing overseas if it wasn't for him. He helped me get over there and he's helped me get a good agent."
Meanwhile, Perera just finished leading her Australian National Team to a Bronze medal at the 2009 World University Games in Serbia. In seven games she averaged 11.9 points and shot 44 percent from the field. In the Bronze medal game she had 18 points in an 88-77 victory over the Czech Republic. She scored in double digits in five of the seven games after scoring 15, 13 against Slovakia and Japan and 12 points against Taiwan.
