FRESNO, Calif. - While most Fresno State student-athletes are taking the summer off and spending time at the beach or relaxing, center fielder Gavin Hedstrom is hitting the books across the pond. Hedstrom wrapped up two finance classes in London before heading over to Paris for an internship.
Hedstrom is set to graduate after this fall semester with a degree in Finance and learned about the opportunity to learn abroad from a presentation in a class at Fresno State. He spent two weeks taking two classes before taking on an internship with Colony Capital, a real estate investment company, in Paris.
A typical day for Hedstrom includes heading to the office by 9:30 am and taking care of any tasks that are asked of him. His day usually ends by 5 pm, but executives stay until around 8 pm.
Hedstrom stated that the experience has given him some experience that will help aid his career post-graduation.
"The European travel experience has given me insight into a different market and a blend of different cultures," Hedstrom said.
After playing baseball for four years, he says his experiences as a student-athlete helped prepare him for his European adventure.
"Becoming travel savvy is something you first learn as a baseball player," said Hedstrom. "And just being able to handle whatever is thrown your direction in Europe."
Hedstrom has been able to tour and take in all that Europe has to offer when not he's not in the class room or office.
"My favorite place, so far, would have to be Notre Dame Cathedral," said Hedstrom. "It is breathtaking."
Hedstrom doesn't have a favorite memory just yet because he doesn't want to speak to soon. He has a lot more to take in and learn before fall classes start in August.
