The Fresno State women's soccer team played their first home game of the 2009 season in Bulldog Stadium against Oregon Sunday. Bradlee DeShane led the team with two shots against the Ducks goalkeeper Cody Miles, while freshman Callie Hancock leads the team with four shots this season. The `Dogs lost the home opener against Oregon, 2-0, and are 0-3 on the season.
"We came out flat and disregarded our sense for the game plan," said head coach Brian Zwaschka. "Playing against an experienced team like Oregon we can't fall asleep or be on different pages. And that is what happened to us today."
The Ducks scored in the 15th minute of the first half. Kelsey Hones played a through ball to Julie Armstrong, who crossed the ball to Jen Stoltenberg. Stoltenberg scored giving Oregon the lead, 1-0.
In the second half Rianna Mansfield headed the ball in off a cross from Tahne Apo giving the Ducks the lead, 2-0.
The Bulldogs recorded five shots against the Oregon goalkeeper. DeShane fired off two shots, while Hancock, Krissy Looney and Laura Dodd each recorded a shot.
The Bulldogs had three of the five shots on goal. Both DeShane and Hancock's shots were on goal.
Junior Kaitlyn Revel recorded 11 saves against Oregon. Revel has 22 saves on the season and 206 career saves. She is in third place in career saves in Fresno State history and needs 35 more to tie second place.
The Bulldogs hit the road next week and play in the UC Irvine Tournament Sept. 4-6.
