FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State women's soccer team opened the UC Irvine Invitational against host UC Irvine Friday night. Freshman Callie Hancock recorded three shots in the Bulldogs, 3-0, lost to the Anteaters. The `Dogs are 0-4 this season.
"The effort from the team was tremendous and they battled for everything tonight," said head coach Brian Zwaschka. "They really pushed through against a tough UC Irvine team. The score line didn't reflect the game, it was evenly matched and both teams had big plays. Their goalkeeper made some big saves that kept us at bay. The timing of the attack and the players committing to the attack was excellent. The team deserved to get on the score sheet for the effort they put in on the attack."
Goalkeeper Kaitlyn Revel made nine saves against the Anteaters and heading into the halftime break the Bulldogs were tied, 0-0.
UC Irvine was able to score three goals in the last 20 minutes of the game. Dana Sanderlin, Sarah Devine and Lexi Kopf scored the goals for the Anteaters.
The Bulldogs had eight shots and six shots on goal. Hancock contributed three shots and all three were on goal. Kendall VanDine, Vanessa Gonzalez, Krissy Looney, Danielle Solich and Nicole Duff all got a shot off against Anteater goalkeeper, Danielle de Seriere.
Hancock leads the team this season in shots with seven. She has had four shots on goal for an on goal percentage of .571. Looney is close behind with three shots.
Revel has 31 saves in four games this season. She has 215 career saves and is third in Fresno State history. Revel needs 26 more saves to move into second place.
