Kucerkova and Petukhova Honored at US Open

FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State seniors Anastasia Petukhova and Renata Kucerkova were recognized for their accomplishments on the court by the USTA at the luncheon for the Arthur Ashe Kids Day at the US Open on Saturday in the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queens, N.Y.
By winning the 2008 ITA National Indoor Doubles Championship, Kucerkova and Petukhova were selected to the ITA Tennis Collegiate All-Star team.
As part of the festivities, they watched exhibition matches featuring the No. 1 men's tennis player in the world, Roger Federer, as well as Andy Murray, Serena Williams, Andy Roddick, James Blake, Kim Clijsters, Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Maria Sharapova.
Legendary comedian Will Ferrell was also in attendance and even competed in an exhibition doubles match along side second-ranked Murray against Wimbledon-finalist Roddick and actor Will Arnett. They also had a chance to see American Idol winner Jordin Sparks perform her hit song "Battlefield."
"It was amazing to see the best players in the world in a friendly setting and have some time to hang out all together," Petukhova said. "The Arthur Ashe Day was great, as thousands of kids had a chance to see great players and musicians."
Other members of the women's All-Star team included ITA National Indoor Singles Champion Aurelija Miseviciute of Arkansas, NCAA Singles Champion Mallory Cecil of Duke, Northwestern's Maria Mosolova, NCAA Doubles Champions Mari Andersson and Jana Juricova of California and Notre Dame's Kristy Frilling and Kelcy Tefft.
The men's side featured National Indoor Singles Champion Bryan Koniecko of Ohio State, NCAA Singles Champion Devin Britton of Mississippi, No. 1 Oleksandr Nedovyesov of Oklahoma State, National Indoors Doubles Champions Cory Parr and Steve Forman of Wake Forest, NCAA Doubles Champions Dominic Inglot and Michael Shabaz of Virginia and No. 1 doubles team, John-Patrick Smith and Davey Sandgren of Tennessee.
