And the Winner Is....
Jaleesa Ross earned WAC Player of the Week honors for the second time this season when she received the award on January 25 after averaging 25.5 points a game, six rebounds, three assists and 2.5 steals in a win at Nevada and a home win over Louisiana Tech. She became the first Bulldog to be named WAC Player of the Week for the 2009-10 season when she earned the accolade on Dec. 7 for performances where she averaged 17 point and 10 rebounds in wins at UC Irvine and Loyola Marymount. Ross has earned WAC Player of the Week honors five times in her career.
Ross One of Top Scorers in Bulldog History
Jaleesa Ross has scored 1,228 points in her career at Fresno State and is currently in 10th place on the Fresno State all-time scoring list. Ross needs seven points to pass Chantella Perera and move into ninth place. Perera finished her career at Fresno State with 1,234 points. Ross is one of only 16 Bulldogs who have surpassed 1,000 points.
Ross Climbing the School 3-Point Record Books
Jaleesa Ross has hit 251 3-pointers in her two plus seasons as a Bulldog and she is currently in second place on the schools career list for 3-pointers made. Her 95 3-pointers made last season is a new Fresno State single season record, breaking the previous mark of 89, set by Ross last year and Lindsay Logan in 2000-01. The 95 3-pointers ranks Ross fifth on the single season Top 10 list in the WAC for most 3-pointers made in a year.
Classroom Smarts
Not only is coach Adrian Wiggins team performing well on the court, the Bulldogs are also taking care of business in the classroom as the team finished with a fall semester GPA of 3.1. It is the first time Wiggins has had a team finish above a 3.0 in back-to-back semesters as last year's team had a 3.2 in the spring of 2009.
Best Start in School History
The Bulldogs 15-5 start is the second best start in school history as the 1985-86 team and the 2005-06 team were both 15-5. The best start in school history is 16-4 by the 1986-87 and the 1984-85 teams.
