FRESNO, Calif. - Already one of the most breathtaking softball stadiums in the country, this year at Fresno State games, the Bulldog faithful will see a new addition to Bulldog Diamond.
Construction began for the new indoor batting cage in the spring of 2009 and was completed in the fall of the same year. The 60x60, 3,600 square foot blue building can be seen down the left field line just past the outdoor batting cage.
"It's going to be a tremendous addition to Bulldog Diamond," said John Kriebs, the Associate Athletic Director for Facilities and Operations. "It's going to provide the student-athletes a place to go and train during bad weather and give them a place that they can call their own."
BMY Construction worked on the project. Inside the building the team has access to three batting cages surrounded by nets. There are also two storage rooms available. The floor is made of Astroturf.
"It's a great opportunity for our pitchers to throw when they can't go outside," said head coach Margie Wright. "We can also open the doors and take ground balls. It's a venue that the team can use if they want to voluntarily practice they can. I think it will really help our team's cohesiveness."
Additions to the batting cage will be made in the coming months, including pictures of former Bulldog All-Americans on the indoor walls.
