Bulldogs Take Show On The Road
After a brief stop in Fresno, the Bulldogs are back on the road for Wednesday's nonconference game at Pacific. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m. Fresno State picked up its fourth win of the season in convincing style, beating Pepperdine 78-65 last weekend at the Save Mart Center. Five players scored in double figures, including senior forward Hayley Munro, who led the way with 17 points. Freshman guard Bree Farley added 12 points, and senior forward Marnique Arnold scored 11. Rosie Moult (10 points) and Taja Edwards (10 points) also reached double figures for Fresno State. The Bulldogs have traditionally performed well away from home. They were 13-1 on the road last season and are currently 2-1.
Scouting The Tigers
Pacific enters Wednesday night's game having lost three consecutive games. The Tigers are coming off a 56-44 setback to UNLV at the UNLV Hyatt Place Rebel Round-Up, a tournament that also included a run-in with national stronghold Rutgers. Against the Rebels, sophomore Jordan Rogers grabbed 10 rebounds, and sophomore forward Kendal Rodriguez added eight points with five rebounds. This is Pacific's first home game since beating San Jose State 70-57 on Nov. 19. Fresno State leads the all-time series 22-20.
Arnold Gets The Nod
Senior forward Marnique Arnold may have called her initial move to the starting lineup against UC Irvine a "trial run," but from all appearances, she is intent on making the most of it. Arnold has started the past three games for the Bulldogs and each time has provided them with a lift. Against the Anteaters, Arnold couldn't miss. She was 10-for-13 from the floor for a career-high 23 points. Her 10 rebounds were a season high. In three starts, Arnold is averaging 15 points and 6.7 rebounds.
Fresno State Picked To Win WAC, Again
Given the way the Bulldogs have performed in the WAC recently, perhaps it's no surprise they were selected to win the conference title again this year. Fresno State, winners of three consecutive WAC championships, collected seven of nine first-place votes in the recent coaches' preseason poll and 14 of 18 in the media poll. Fresno State, La Tech and Nevada were the top three-rated teams in both polls. Senior guard Jaleesa Ross was selected as the preseason player of the year.
Ross' Record Watch
Senior guard Jaleesa Ross, the Preseason WAC Player of the Year, heads into her final season with her sights set on a number of prestigious marks. One of the best 3-point shooters in the nation, Ross has made 298 3-pointers during her career and currently sits in third place in the WAC for 3-point field goals made. Already Fresno State's leader in that category, Ross is 95 away from becoming the NCAA's all-time leader for 3-pointers made. Former Kansas State guard Laurie Koehn holds the current record with 392 treys. Ross made 103 last season.
Ross' Record Watch Part II
Jaleesa Ross is also threatening to become Fresno State's all-time leading scorer. She has already amassed 1,532 points in her career and is currently in fourth place on the Fresno State all-time scoring list. She needs 64 more points to pass Wendy Martell (1,595) and move into third place and 247 to leap to the top of the list, surpassing Yvette Roberts (1,778 points).
Fresno State Gets Offensive Against Sacramento State
The Bulldogs put on an offensive show during Sunday's 120-93 victory over Sacramento State. The team's 120-point scoring output was the second-highest in program history. Fresno State scored 129 points against Baylor in 1989.
Bulldogs Get The Green Light
Fresno State is averaging a staggering 29.3 3-point field goal attempts per game thus far. The Bulldogs set a new standard by attempting 45 3-point field goals during their 120-93 victory over Sacramento State on Nov. 14. The 2008-09 squad held the previous mark with 41 attempts vs. Sacramento State. Fresno State was 14-for-45 against the Hornets and 11-for-41 in the loss to Cal Poly. The Bulldogs have hit a 3-pointer in 105 consecutive games.
Bulldogs Shatter Record Books in 2010
The Bulldogs set many school records over the course of last season. Here is a look at the records that were broken.
- 27 wins in a season, previous record was 24
- 19 straight wins, previous record was nine
- 16-0 in WAC play, previous best record was 14-2.
- earned program's first-ever at large berth to the NCAA tournament.
